Timeframe

  • The Deadline for Application is the 22nd of November, 11:59 PM
  • The Hackathon will be running from the 2nd until the 5th of December, 2022

Location

  • The Hackathon will be run in Arbaminch inside the Arba Minch University

Accommodation and Logistics

  • For those traveling to and from other cities, transportation services will be available
  • Accommodation during the 4 nights will be cover for all attendees

Eligibility

This assignment goes for everyone who believes they are problem solvers and are willing to take on any challenge are welcomed to join the hackathon. But since the hackathon aims to take on the best solutions and see them implemented, people who reside in cities around Lake Chamo or those who are willing to work on the solutions event after the event will be given priorities.

Background

Lake Chamo,is one of Ethiopia’s largest lakes located in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and People region of Ethiopia and about 32 kilometers long and 13 kilometers wide. Its surroundings are characterized by savannah and are known for their rich wildlife. This unique ecosystem is dwindling and dying for different reasons from unsustainable farming practices, deforestation, inadequate coordination of development actors, and erosion of productive soil from the upper catchment which results in deposition of silt in the lake.

Assignment

To search for sustainable local solutions to help the restoration process of the lake Chamo ecosystem and maintain the wellbeing of the ecosystem so that products and services are tapped in a sustainable manner. To solve this challenge at hand, creatives and innovativers from all walks of life are called upon to come together for four days in Arba Minch to understand the root problem and come up with innovative solutions. Several groups or individuals can participate in this event and compete in teams and teams with the best ideas and prototypes will receive awards and the opportunity to turn their ideas into reality.
